Winter in Detroit has arrived and it’s time for inside the bar promotions. Throughout the year most local pubs and corner bars immerse themselves in the activities of their neighborhood. To better promote their local bar they either have to go out into the local community or invite the local neighborhood inside.
Examples of outside promotions are financial support of local sports teams. Local, adult softball leagues need funding. The “sport bar’ term has its roots in local sports organizations, team funding. This is generally accomplished through team uniform purchases. Bar owners pay to provide and print their logo on team jerseys.
To continue this marketing process the bar owner will transform the outside advertising of their business to reflect this same logo. An example of this approach is visible on the outside of the Taylor A.C. Bar & Grille in Taylor. Since 1962 this family owned bar has sponsored softball teams in Taylor, Romulus, Wayne, Westland, Garden City, and Allen Park.
Here is an example of logo insertion on the front of the bar exterior to amplify their sponsorship of local baseball teams. It is represented by the baseball cap, the baseball stitching, and the letters A.C. (Athletic Club) insertion into the baseball sign.
Most “Sports Bars” began as true sports team sponsors. The athletic leagues that neighborhood bars prefer to sponsor are school little league, adult softball, and bowling teams. Each of these types of sports teams are neighborhood and school based organizations. In 2018 it may appear offensive to sponsor little league teams. However in 1958 it was perfectly acceptable for families to bring their children to family bars for dinner and camaraderie.
Due to the continued support of the neighborhoods close to their local pub, our business owners are able to survive financially. It takes a lot of hard work and time to make a small profit in our small businesses in Metro Detroit.
