The Journey Begins

img_1170     This is the home page covering authentic dive bars close to Detroit Metro Airport. Included is the route between the airport (DTW) to Downtown Detroit.  This distance encompasses the route of most trade show visitors to the Motor City.  Detroit Metro Airport is the hub for residents and travelers traveling to and from the greater Detroit area for business and pleasure.

Surrounding this hub are Detroit suburbs containing authentic, old-fashioned, bars & grills dating back to 1940. That was a formative year on the West side of Metro Detroit.  At that time, the area surrounding Detroit proper was not referred to as “Metro Detroit.” Residents either lived in Detroit or in the farming communities and townships surrounding the western Detroit boundary.

The popularity of genuine dive bars in Metro Detroit is a reflection of the interest in all things Mid-Century Modern.  The mid-twentienth century covers the post World War II years through the 1970’s.  This term applies to collections of furniture, clothing, home construction, automobiles, and pubs of that baby-boom time.
